The Gift
January 15, 2008
In The Gift, a young boy takes a rocket to mars on Christmas eve. The boy wants to have the best Christmas ever, so he ask for a Christmas tree with candles all around it. His parents leave the present in their old house back on Earth. They do not explain this to him this until they think the time is right. Can you imagine having a surprise birthday party without the party? That is what it was like for him. This crushes the boys spirits tremendously; however, there is a redemption in the end. The boy gets to experience the best present of all, a look through a viewing window into the deep, desolate space.
The boy in the story wished for presents that are simple and easy, but have tremendous meaning for him. However, today's kids wish for presents that are trendy and oftentimes very expensive. For example, performance race car experiences, were you drive some of the fastest cars in they world, iTouches or iPhones, or the newest technological gaming devise there is. The race car experience can cost around $219 whereas the iTouches and iPhones range from $200 to $500! What people today have lost sight of is that the gift giving seasons are truly for hanging out with your friends and family while enjoying the meaning behind the holiday. People should not get greedy, but be happy with what they get. This boy was excited and enthusiastic about his only Christmas present. That is how the holiday seasons should be spent. Is that what you think, or not?

The boy yells at his dad that the only thing he wants to do is watch, and enjoy life. The boy and the girl want their smart house to do all of the work for them. Without the smart house, the children would have to cook, clean, take baths, and even feed themselves! These kids are solemnly dependent on this house for their ever day lives. What they consider work is completely different to what we consider work.
In our 21 century, Robots are beginning to carry out our everyday lives. In the smart houses, you can buy robot lawn mowers that recharge themselves and mow the lawn for you. Smart houses range from $30,000 to $100,000. The electronics in a smart home are supposed to be in about 25,000 homes soon.

January 8,2008
A little girl named Margot is from our beautiful Earth. She now lives on the planet known as Venus. On Venus, the sun only comes out every seven, or so, years. When Margot gets to her new school, she is made fun of and teased. She is teased because she remembers what the sun is like. She remembers the warm rays, and the nice blue skys that follow the sun appearance. Finally, the weather forcaste4rs predict that the sun will rise on the day. Since the sun rises only every so many years, nobody believes it but Margot. The other kids get angry that Margot believes that the sun will rise, so they lock her in a closet in the bottom of the tunnels.
In recent days, a young boy was abused and thrown in a closet. The parents of the boy hit him for not being able to finish off a bottle of green rubbing alcohol. The boy weighed 25 pounds at four years old. That weight is what a two year old should weigh. the boy was transported between two homes off and on. the boy was forced to hold 2 1/2 pound barbell weights above his head until his arms collapsed and fell on his head and feet. The boy was finally rescued after cops were anonymously tipped off about the situation. The girl, Margot, may have missed the sun coming up and her only chance to see her dream, but this boy has waisted four years of his life in a closet. Do you think Margot suffered much of anything compared to this tattered and frayed kid?
